Bone and Joint Health
Healthy joints and strong bones are foundational to staying active and independent throughout life. Whether you’re managing ongoing joint pain, an arthritic condition, or looking to protect your bone density as you age, a naturopathic approach can offer support.

Understanding Bone and Joint Health
Bone and joint health are influenced by a wider range of factors than many people realise. Chronic low-grade inflammation is a common factor in many forms of joint pain and arthritis, and diet, gut health, and lifestyle all play a role in the body’s overall inflammatory load.
Bone density depends on many elements, including adequate intake and absorption of key nutrients, and regular weight-bearing activity. Hormonal factors, particularly around perimenopause and menopause, when bone loss can accelerate, are also fundamental.
A Naturopathic Approach to Bone and Joint Health
Treatment starts with a thorough case history and, where appropriate, pathology testing to assess relevant nutrient levels, inflammatory markers, and hormonal factors. From there, a personalised plan may include:
- Nutritional medicine: ensuring adequate intake of the nutrients bones and joints rely on
- Herbal medicine: traditionally used to help manage inflammation and support joint comfort
- Anti-inflammatory dietary strategies: addressing diet as a contributor to overall inflammatory load
- Gut health support: given the emerging links between gut health and inflammatory joint conditions (see our Digestion and Gut Health page)
- Lifestyle guidance: appropriate weight-bearing exercise and other lifestyle factors to support bones and joints
Working With Your Medical Team
Arthritis, osteoporosis and osteopaenia benefit from appropriate medical diagnosis and monitoring, and, where relevant, prescribed medication. Naturopathic support is designed to complement this care, not replace it. With your consent, I’m happy to liaise with your GP or specialist to ensure a coordinated approach.
