Lifestyle Medicine is intrinsic to a holistic approach to healthcare. At its most basic level, Lifestyle Medicine is defined as: the use of lifestyle interventions in the prevention, treatment and management of disease. Lifestyle Medicine provides a whole systems approach to the prevention and reversal of chronic and lifestyle-related diseases through the modification of the behavioural, social and environmental drivers.
From a practical perspective, Lifestyle Medicine involves addressing physical inactivity, poor diet or nutrition, excessive alcohol consumption, smoking, chronic stress, anxiety, poor or inadequate sleep, social isolation, loss of culture and identity, and other influences of society and environment. When appropriate we will also refer you to other allied health professionals to help you address some of these areas.
